Intermediary Services

How it works

If the child, young person or vulnerable adult is a suspect or defendant in a criminal case you can contact me directly for an intermediary. The courts have powers to appoint and fund intermediaries for vulnerable defendants in the interests of a fair trial. The police have discretion to fund intermediaries for suspect interviews.

If the child, young person or vulnerable adult is a victim or witness involved in criminal proceedings you need to contact the Specialist Operations Centre within SOCA on 0845 000 5463, or email soc@npia.pnn.police.uk. (I am a Registered Witness Intermediary with the Ministry of Justice).

intermediary

I trained as a Registered Intermediary in 2004, I am fully insured and have enhanced DBS (CRB) clearance. I can provide bespoke training on identifying vulnerable witnesses or defendants and adapting communication.

What I do

I am a skilled intermediary enabling communication with young children, young people and vulnerable adults with a wide range of needs including learning disability (low IQ), autism, ADHD and physical disability.

What next?

Contact me for an informal discussion or to make a referral. Once funding is secured I will:

  • Carry out a communication assessment at a convenient location
  • Write a report containing recommendations for effective communication in subsequent proceedings
  • Provide communication support at court and during interviews and meetings, including with legal representatives and the probation service.
